Nudist Beach

By | May 28, 2007

No, it wasn’t exactly a nudist beach.

I was in Leipzig with some colleagues yesterday. One of my colleagues stays, with her kids, in Leipzig. Since there wasn’t much to do here on Sunday we decided to go visit them. We got to her house, had a brunch and later headed for the beach. I had already been told that there was a part of the beach where people didn’t put on any clothing. The beach is basically divided into two sides. At one side, where we stayed, were people who were in bikini and other swimming stuffs, and at the other side were people who were basically naked. Some lay down on the sand, face-up, soaking in the sun; some others were swimming. I don’t see anything wrong in them doing that, but something inside me simply couldn’t get over the fact that nakedness is a private thing, that when we are outside we are ‘supposed’ to be clothed. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that nakedness was not something you exactly paraded in my family when I was growing up. No, don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that there is something to be ashamed of in nakedness; I can rationalise it, tell myself that people have the right to be clothed or not, at least in such places, but that doesn’t help me shake off the feeling that it might be better to keep the naked body private.

What do you guys think?

I recognize that most of these nudist resorts are private organisations therefore are like minded individuals who may think there is nothing ‘bad’ or immoral about people enjoying their sexuality together. Most of them: their intention is to de-emphasize sexual desire. Therefore, I hope you didn’t have any lustful or lascivious intent during your visit as that would be contrary to the ethics.

Conversely many people (including myself) have been brought up and taught that nudity is immoral. Unlike, marriage subservience, this is one tradition I cannot reject. I find it morally wrong! I know there are others who would disagree but am entitled to my own opinion. In any event, I think criminal law should be applied to nudism?

I don’t agree with parading around naked for everyone to see. But then again, its how we were brought up. I’m not ashamed of my body but my brain just can’t wrap itself around the thought of nudism and its goals.

Yea, that was exactly my point! I do not mind it if some people choose to go naked (in designated places, of course) but I still can’t understand it, at least not from the less-rational part of me. And I have learnt to respect that part. 🙂

In light of the above comments …ok I take the following statement back
“I think criminal law should be applied to nudism?”

I have no problem with nudists, if i see one, i’ll look…just like i’d look at animals in a zoo. they are fascinating coz i know i’ll never in a million years be able to do that. heck i could care less if they decided to let the walk around that way, wetin consine me. as long as they carry their own chairs and wear gloves, i’ll be fine.
